Coca-Cola Chocolate Cake


My American friend shared this wonderful recipe with me. In fact, she is not a big cooking fan, but for birthday parties or other special occasions she is always bringing this homemade cake.

This sweet chocolate cake is very rich and delicious. It is great to be served for any occasion: from kid’s birthday and family reunion to a neighbor’s or company potluck.


The recipe calls for a large cake, so if you need less, just cut the ingredients in half.

Sweet, chocolate, delightful, mouthwatering, and unbelievably easy to prepare pleaser!

Coca-Cola Chocolate Cake


one 9” x 13 ½ “ cake


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 ½ – 2 cups sugar (depends on how sweet you like)
  • 225 g butter
  • 2 tbsp good quality cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk

For the icing:

  •  1 stick (100-114 g) butter
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 6 tbsp Coca-Cola
  • 4 cups powdered sugar



Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C).

Grease a 9 “x 13 1/ 2” baking dish with butter and dust with flour.

In a large bowl, mix the flour and sugar.

In a saucepan, mix the butter, cocoa, and Coca-Cola. Bring to a boil. Pour hot liquid into the flour-and-sugar mixture. Cool slightly.

Add the eggs, baking soda, vanilla extract and buttermilk. Whisk until smooth.

Pour the batter into baking dish and bake for 35 minutes. Cool.


To prepare the icing, bring the oil and Coca-Cola to a gentle boil. Remove from heat, add sugar and cocoa. Stir well until smooth.

Spread the icing on a cooled cake.

  • Tip:

If you wish you can add chopped nuts to the icing.
