One of my New Year’s resolutions for this year is to cook more healthy dishes and to make healthy shakes and smoothies on a regular base.
I just have no choice: one of my Christmas (actually a New Year’s) gifts was a heavy duty blender. It was a nice unexpected surprise – there was no single blender on my ‘Wish List’.
Apart from wonderful cooking books I found a very large package under the Christmas tree. My dear husband decided that it was not quite enough to have books as a Christmas gift. So I was thrilled to get a huge box with a mystery gift, which turned out to be a wonderful kitchen machine. The quality and the price of the blender just gave me no choice but to improve our healthy lifestyle, making wonderful pink, purple, white, red, and green smoothies more often.
This recipe I saw on the Giada de Laurentiis TV show. Giada starts her day with this green smoothie. I immediately tested my new blender and I loved the result very much: green, spring looking, slightly sour, with a hint of sweet, this smoothie became a favorite of mine.
about 1 ½ pint (750 ml)
- 4-6 oz spinach (more or less)
- 2 carrots (medium or large)
- 2 sticks of celery
- 2 green apples
- ½ lemon (with skin or without)
- 1” ginger root
Cut the vegetables and fruits into big chunks. Remove pits in the apples and the lemon.
Put all the ingredients in a blender. If you wish, add 4 pieces of ice or ½ cup of water. Blend until smooth and creamy. Serve over ice if you wish.
Cook with pleasure!
