Salmon that is prepared in the simplest way but served with a velvety yogurt sauce turns out incredibly elegant even thought both, the salmon and the sauce are ready in mere minutes.


Everything is in the presentation and the complimenting ingredients. I tried making this sauce with dill and cilantro respectively and liked both dishes just as much. I decided to add a bit of chopped capers to the mix and it also turned out wonderful. The capers need to be very finely chopped so that they give their flavor to the sauce but do not overpower it. Out of the given amounts of  ingredients you will have just a bit more sauce than is necessary for four portions, however, the excess can be used to top off a salad or spice up any veggies. Its combination with salmon though can not be beat.

 Salmon with Yogurt Sauce   

4 servings


  • 4 skinless salmon fillet, about 6 oz each
  • 4 tsp olive oil
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (or regular plain yogurt, a mixture of yogurt and sour cream or crème fraiche/cream fresh)
  • 1 small clove garlic, pressed or finely diced
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped chili pepper (jalapeno or fresno)
  • 1-2 tbsp finely chopped dill or cilantro
  • Juice and zest of  ½ lemon or lime
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil  
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper

Option :

  • Add 1-2 tbsp finely chopped capers



In a bowl stir all the ingredients for the sauce. Whisk gently. Let stand at room temperature while cooking salmon..

Pat dry fish with paper towel.

Rub portions with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and black pepper.

In a skillet fry salmon on medium to high heat for about 4 minutes, turn over and cook for another 3-4 minutes (or 2 minutes less for medium rare). Fish should have golden brown color.

Serve with yogurt sauce .
